In 1816, Charlotte Brontë was born in Yorkshire. After attending boarding school as a young child, where two of her sisters passed away, she continued her education at home with her younger siblings, Emily, Branwell, and Anne. As an adult, Charlotte taught in a Brussels school and served as a governess. Under the pen name Currer Bell, Jane Eyre was first published in 1847. Shirley (1848), Villette (1853), and The Professor (posthumously published in 1857) were the novels that came after. Arthur Bell Nicholls, her father's curate, and Charlotte were married in 1854. Villette

This work, which is based on the author's personal experience as a teacher in Brussels, tells a story of suppressed emotions and heroic fortitude in the face of harsh circumstances and positions.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Taking place in the well-known Bronte landscape of desolate houses in moorland settings, this story of love and treachery, separation and reconciliation, is at times violent and brutal.

Wuthering Heights

An ardent tale of the love shared by Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, the foundling that her father took in. Despite the chaotic and violent nature of the story, this novel is a masterpiece of English literature because of its masterful handling of a complex structure, its descriptions of the moorland setting, and its poetic grandeur.

Jane Eyre

Known as one of the best-ever and most widely read pieces of English fiction, this title shows a poor and unattractive heroine who is full of courage, wit, and an unwavering spirit. She must struggle against the demands of a strict social structure, a harsh employer, and a cruel guardian.

The Professor

In her debut book, The Professor, Charlotte Bronte daringly adopts the voice and consciousness of a man, William Crimsworth.
